A magistrate court in Ilorin, Kwara State, has remanded a 27-year old student of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, over an alleged attempt to commit murder.
The accused, identified as Ibrahim Odetoro, a.ka. According to Police First Information Report (FIR) before the court, the matter was first reported at the ‘D’ Division Police Station by one Raji Ayo Sherrif, a student of the university who claimed to have received a text message threatening him allegedly from the accused.
Sherrif was said to have reported the matter to the school authority who advised him to approach the police.
It was alleged that while Sherrif was standing opposite the university gate, the accused and four others allegedly attacked him but he narrowly escaped being killed by gunshot allegedly from the accused and his group.
The FIR also explained that police operatives later swung into action and arrested the accused with one locally made pistol, three cartridges and charm. The FIR listed the names of other suspects in the case as one Sodiq and Tunde.
However, when the matter came up for hearing, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges while the police prosecutor, Sanni Abdullahi told the court that investigation was still ongoing on the matter and as such requested that the accused be remanded in prison custody.
In his ruling, Magistrate M.B. Mogaji ordered that the accused be remanded at the federal prison, Mandala until July 31 when the matter will come up again for further mention.
