Russia Premier League side Amkar Perm have signed Nigerian Izunna Uzochukwu on a three-year deal.
The 25-year-old joined the Russian club on a free transfer after a successful spell at Danish Superligue champions FC Midtjylland.
The defensive midfielder, who joined FC Mitdjylland in 2007, was an important member of the league champions notching 172 appearances.
He however says it is time to face a new challenge in Russia. “I had a successful time at FC Mitdjylland but decided to experience a new challenge after clinching the Superliga title,” Uzochukwu said.
“I am looking forward to playing in the Russia Premier League and also to achieve success with Amkar Perm.”
The player also said he was open to playing for the Nigeria national team, Super Eagles despite overtures to play for the Danish national team.
Uzochukwu said: “Playing for the Super Eagles is the dream of every Nigerian footballer.
I never thought of playing for another country and I hope one day I will get the chance to serve my fatherland.”
