Recently released reports claiming Akpako master, Terry G, has been signed on The Game’s record label has proven to be false. The record deal, which surfaced online, a few weeks ago reported to include a mansion in Lekki and a Ferrari is entirely false, remains but a cheap publicity stunt.
When the reports first made the rounds and flooded the blogosphere, Nigerians hailed Terry G to the high heavens for the purported feat, but it happened that all those who believed the tale were merely deluded. Firstly, the foreign rapper involved doesn’t own a record label, rather he co-owns an entertainment label with his half-brother. Secondly, ever since the so called “signing”, the label, Black Wall street hasn’t issued an official statement corroborating the singer’s claims as usually done, probably owing to the fact the label is now defunct.
It has not been operational for a long time. Another issue we have to consider is the fact that when the story emerged, a story and a picture of the singer with a number of people was all that was available, the Game wasn’t in the picture neither was any representative of BlackWall Street.
More so, The Game himself doesn’t own a Ferrari, he drives a truck, lives a fairly modest lifestyle and in the same neighborhood where he grew up on the dangerous streets of Compton.
So why would he decide to sign an artiste and relocate him from Iju, a Lagos suburb to a highbrow area? Terry G who started his music career with the defunct Blue Moon records at Iju -Ishaga area; Lagos has been a source of pride to his community.
Shortly after Blue Moon shut down operations Terry G started his solo career and ever since then, he has managed to make his brand of music acceptable and has become a household name having set up and shutdown his record label, House of Ginjah several years back.
A n avid follower of the Nigerian music scene might assume the reason for the publicity stunt was because his career was dwindling and he thought an endorsement hoax might shore up his image in the entertainment industry more so that he has social media influencers at his beck and call.
