2015 AfroBasket: Aminu tops D’Tigers list
Portland Trail Blazers forward, Al-Farouq Aminu, topped the list of players selected by D’Tigers coach, William Voigt, for next month’s Africa Cup of Nations (AfroBasket) in Tunisia.
The AfroBasket will take place from August 19 to 30 and, under the tutelage of new coach American-born William Voigt Nigeria’s D’Tigers will be hoping to rule Africa for the first time after finishing second on three previous occasions.
The team left Nigeria for France on Wednesday for an invitational tournament taking place in Paris from July 22 to 27. And 26 players have been pencilled down for the Paris invitational and the AfroBasket, including Aminu’s older brother Alade, Ike Diogu, Benjamin Uzoh, Stanley Okoye, Andy Ogide, Jamal Olasewere, Stanley Gumut and veteran Olumide Oyedeji, who was in the teams that lost in the finals in 1997, 1999 and 2003.
Los Angeles Clippers forward, Ekpe Udoh, was also called up, along with Chamberlain Oguchi and Derrick Obasohan who were part of the London 2012 Olympics, and home based stars Abubakar Usman and Yahaya Abdul.
Others are Deji Akindele, Micheal Umeh, Eric Oluwaseun, Obekpa Chris, Ofoegbu Ikechukwu, Edo Karachi, Akinlolu Akingbala, Ebie Jason, Elonu Chinemelu, Gbinije Micheal,Olaseni Lawal and Talib Zanna.
