Congo Brazzaville coach, Claude Le Roy, has warned Nigeria to expect another home defeat when both teams battle at the Adokiye Amasiemaka Stadium in Port Harcourt in a 2016 Olympic Games football qualifier on Sunday.
The Congolese are expected to arrive in Nigeria on Friday and will be received by officials of the Nigeria Football Federation.
The 67-year-old Frenchman, who led the Congolese Red Devils to a 3-2 defeat of the Super Eagles last year in a 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, maintained that Nigeria should be ready for another shocker.
“We are in an identical position to last year with no one beyond Congo giving us a chance,” Le Roy said during a training camp in Atlantic city Pointe-Noire. “But my team have a huge chance of not only eliminating Nigeria, but qualifying for the Rio Olympics.
“There is no reason why we should fear Nigeria because Congolese football has made tremendous progress recently and we must maintain that improvement,” the Frenchman added. Congo defeated Ghana to qualify for this stage while Nigeria received first and second-round byes.
The winners of the tie between Nigeria and Congo will qualify for the CAF African U-23 Championship in Senegal, from where the continent’s Rio 2016 representatives will emerge.
