Lagos LG committee seeks penalty for corrupt council officials

Lagos LG committee seeks penalty for corrupt council officials
Corrupt local government officials in Lagos State, would no longer be free from their official misdeeds in office as the Committee on Reformation of the Local Government Administration has recommended a stiff sanction for any corrupt council official. Worried by the complaints over poor performance of the Local Government Councils across the state, the state Governor Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, has set up the committee with a specific mandate to reform the councils for optimal performance that would enhance the development of the state.
Presenting the recommendation and findings of the committee to the state Head of Service, Mrs. Folashade Jaji, the Committee Chairman, Otunba Nurudeen Ojora-Adejiyan, said that the committee discovered that the local government system has deviated from its primary objectives, leading to disconnect between the communities and managers of council areas.
He added that cutting edge consultations were made to capture the inputs of critical stakeholders. To resolve some of the challenges, Ojora- Adejiyan, stated that the committee made an array of recommendations, including a review of administration laws and sanctions on local government personnel involved in fraudulent practices.
