Rihanna’s New Movie “HOME” Hits No1 Spot In Box Office With $54m
Rihanna’s new animated movie titled “Home” opened at No. 1 at the box office this weekend.
The film which is about a teenage girl (Rihanna) who teams up with a misfit alien (Jim Parsons of Big Bang Theory) raked in $54 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Overseas, it earned $48.2 million for a whopping worldwide total of $102.2 million.
“Home’s $54 million opening ranks 8th all-time for DreamWorks Animation (3rd all-time for a non-sequel),” @boxofficemojo tweeted.
It far exceeded expectations and beat out the Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart comedy Get Hard, which opened at No. 2 with $34.6 million.
The 3D movie, which also stars Steve Martin and Jennifer Lopez, marks the best opening for a DreamWorks Animation film since Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted ($60.3 million) in summer 2012 and the third-best showing ever for a DWA title.
