Ebola nurse works at hospital that saved him

Ebola nurse works at hospital that saved him

The first British healthcare worker who caught and survived Ebola is working as an NHS nurse in the hospital that helped save his life.
He spoke to the BBC while working nights in A&E at the Royal Free Hospital in north London.
In an exclusive interview, Will Pooley said everyone should “honour and remember” the African healthcare staff who fought the disease.
He was flown back to the UK from Sierra Leone in an RAF airlift a year ago.
Pooley, 30, spent a week in a special isolation unit at the Royal Free, where he was treated with the experimental drug ZMapp.
He recovered quickly and returned to Sierra Leone in October to help efforts to contain the virus, which has claimed more than 11,000 lives in West Africa in the past year.
The latest figures from the World Health Organisation show there have been just three new Ebola cases in the past week – all from Guinea.
Pooley has been at the Royal Free for about three months. I accompanied him as he went back to the unit where he began his admission by crawling to his bed through a plastic tunnel.
Two separate rooms each contain a bed surrounded by plastic tents. The unit is, in effect, a self-contained hospital.
Pooley told BBC News: “It feels like a lifetime has passed since I was here, and I’m grateful to be alive.
“But my whole year has been coloured by the death, shortly after my discharge, of a nursing sister and colleague in Africa, Nancy Yoko.
“I know what treatment I received because of where I’m from. She died a really unpleasant death.
“She and a clutch of other staff there died protecting all of us from Ebola.
“Their story has been lost in some ways. We should remember them and honour them.”
He paid tribute to his “compassionate and skilled” colleagues in A&E, saying he was “emotionally connected” to the Royal Free after his Ebola treatment.
He added: “I bump into nurses in the lift who, a year ago, were saving my life.”
The nurse believes he caught Ebola from changing a baby’s nappy.
He was critical of the slow start to the global effort in tackling last year’s outbreak.
He said: “I’ve heard Barack Obama and David Cameron talk about how slow and inadequate the response was to start with.
“Ultimately we ended up paying the price for that.
“We had to commit more resources for something that could have been nipped in the bud earlier on.
“And even if we’re solving problems for selfish interests – to save trouble further down the line – we also have a moral responsibility to help.”
Some Ebola survivors have experienced problems such as joint pain and sight difficulties.
Pooley was not exposed to levels of the virus which gave him lingering effects, but said it was a problem for a “substantial minority” of people.

New Mom likes to give her baby daughter middle finger

Rebecca Schuman is an education columnist for Slate Magazine and also a new mum who apparently likes to give her sleeping infant baby daughter the middle finger, and post the photos to her Facebook page.

Schuman explained her reasoning for posting the questionable photos in a recent piece called “Baby Bird”:

“The reasons I take and post these pictures are varied. I crave emotional release after hours of increasingly desperate nursing, jiggling, rocking, walking, and, my personal favorite, walk-nursing (all wriggling, self-torpedoing 22 pounds of her).
I’m also trying to amuse my husband, to diffuse what could otherwise be even more strain on two adults pushed to the boundaries of civility. And, of course, there’s the defiant gesture of Parenting Realness…”She added:

“…my daughter is a grade-A pain in my a** about going to sleep.”

The Slate scribe is also very effusive over her affection for her daughter, and writes, ” I love my daughter, who is with me 20 hours a day and who co-sleeps with me and who is my whole life…”

Schuman is so enthusiastic about her approach to parenting, she’s even started a blog called Pan Kisses Kafka. In it, you can read some of her variations on lullabies. This particular verse is apparently sung to “Amazing Grace.”:

O Lini Bean
You are so tired
Why won’t you go to sleep?
Fuckin’ A, fuckin’ A
You’ve been up all day
Why won’t you go to sleep?
Though Schuman isn’t certain that her decision to wield her middle finger in front of her sleeping infant is philosophically sound, she claims that it makes her happy, and will stop doing it if (or when) her daughter realizes what’s happening, and maybe doesn’t find it all that funny.

People have been bashing her parenting skills and mental health online but she apparently doesn't care because she keeps trying to justify why she does what she does.

Meet Leonie Müller, the woman living on a train

Following a dispute with her landlord, Leonie Müller, 23, from Stuttgart, Germany, gave up her permanent abode to live on a train. She became so fed up of renting that she took matters into her own hands.

From her entire wardrobe and laptop to wash bag and textbooks, student Leonie carries everything she owns on the train with her.
And financially, she benefits from living on a train: The flat-rate ticket costs her about $380, whereas she had to pay about $450 for her previous apartment.

Müller told The Washington Post via e-mail
"It all started with a dispute I had with my landlord,I instantly decided I didn't want to live there anymore — and then I realized: Actually, I didn't want to live anywhere anymore."I want to inspire people to question their habits and the things they consider to be normal, "I really feel at home on trains, and can visit so many more friends and cities. It's like being on vacation all the time," Müller said.

Instead, she bought a subscription that allows her to board every train in the country for free. Now, Müller washes her hair in the train bathroom and writes her college papers while traveling at a speed of up to 190 mph. She says that she enjoys the liberty she has experienced since she gave up her apartment.

The Tübingen University student is also in a relationship with a man in Cologne, so it suits her to live on the 190mph train and travel between his home, her mother's home in Berlin and her university.

Müller frequently travels late at night, although she tries to sleep at the apartments of relatives or friends. Often, she is accommodated by her boyfriend, her mother or grandmother.
"Normally, we would have to have a long-distance relationship, but living on a train enables me to see him all the time," Müller told German TV station SWR regarding her boyfriend. "Most of my friends really like the idea, although some consider it to be quite adventurous. Others, however, have reacted more negatively: They feel offended by the fact that I question the ordinary way of life and living."

43-year-old virgin gets new 8in inflatable bionic eggplant

A man who had his penis ripped off when he was 6 years old has been fitted with an 8in bionic manhood which inflates when you squeeze the testicles.
43 year old Virgin Mohammed Abad, lost his penis in a road accident in Huddersfield but now, for the first time, he has a fully functioning package complete with "on" and "off" buttons.

And he says he's ready to try it out.
Mohammed, who appeared on Embarrasing Bodies in 2011, told The Sun: 'When you want a bit of action you press the "on" button.

"When you are finished you press another button. It takes seconds.
"Some ladies might want to try it out."The ingenious design is fitted with two tubes inside the shaft, which pump fluid from his stomach into the penis by pressing a button on his scrotum.

Another button then drains the fluid.

It took surgeons at University College London 3 years to mould Mohammed's new member using skin taken from his arm.

He underwent 100 operations in total, including an 11-hour procedure to attach the device.

Mohammed, from Edinburgh, is newly single.

His wife, who he wed 2 years ago without telling her about his condition, left him last year.

He said he would be be upfront with any future partner.

How that Gulder TV advert changed my life... A story by Olamide Jasanya

A story shared by Olamide. Read below..

I only clicked on the link because my friends had been making noise about this "awesome new Gulder commercial". It's rare to hear people discussing a TV advert as if it is a song or a movie, and I wanted to see what the fuss was about.

There are three guys, John, Dan and Mike. John is a guy shopping in a boutique who sees a beautiful woman walk in, and has to somehow summon up the courage to talk to her. Dan is a guy who is meeting his girlfriend's dad for the first time.
His girlfriend's dad is a retired military General. Mike is a top performer at his workplace who is wondering whether to ask for the promotion he is due for. He worries about whether he will be fired for asking, and his whole life will fall apart. In all 3 scenarios, the men eventually face their fears and go for what they want.

What jumped out at me from all three scenarios was that the men in question had to go for what they wanted after already being in a situation where they "deserved" it. John is a fairly good-looking guy, but he still had to walk up to the pretty lady and catch her attention. She didn't come to him. Dan was already in a committed relationship with the General's daughter, but he still had to find the courage to meet her father and conquer his own intimidation. Mike was the best performer at his workplace, but the promotion did not happen automatically - even though he deserved it. He had to ask for it.

The big lesson from this is that while life generally tends to reflect what one puts into it, one still has to do that little bit extra to achieve success. Or put in another way, one gets what one negotiates for, and not what one deserves. Food for thought to say the least!

Lamborghini owner uses DUCT TAPE to patch up Damaged Motor & is pulled over by Cops

A Lamborghini Huracán supercar owner resorted to patching up his eye-watering expensive vehicle with duct tape, rather than splash the cash on having it done professionally for just £600 after parting ways with a whooping £180,000 to purchase it.

Onlookers were stunned when two Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4s were pulled over by cops in Woking High Street, Surrey yesterday evening at around 6.15pm after the orange and green sports cars were driven in an anti-social manner. And as the drivers were quizzed on the roadside, one eagle-eyed bystander noticed one of the supercars had a touch of DIY about it, took pictures and alas the pics went viral. Lol. Lovely cars by the way.

Woman Gets Herself Pregnant 14 Times In Ten Years..Her Reason Will Shock You

A woman from Urumqi, northwest China has avoided jail for ten years by getting pregnant 14 times in the course of a decade. The woman, known only as Zeng, was sentenced to life imprisonment for corruption by Urumqi Intermediate People’s Court ten years ago.

When she learned that she faced jail time she announced that she was pregnant, and the court decided to allow her to go on probation, The People’s Daily Online reported.

According to Chinese laws, pregnant women may be given probation when jail sentences are made.

After the first probation decision was granted, Zeng went for an abortion.

And after she regained health, she fell pregnant again and re-applied for probation.

This pattern continued for ten years, with Zeng claiming 14 pregnancies to avoid serving time – only one of which was ultimately found to be false.

However it is unknown whether any of the babies were carried full-term, or whether all of them were aborted over the course of the decade.

Zeng, now 39, has finally been imprisoned after a resubmission of the order by the Municipal Bureau of Justice.

Sister carries her cancer-surviving twin's child

Dawn Ardolino-Policastro and Allison Ardolino Dinkelacker are twin sisters who have quite the story to tell Allison's baby boy when he gets older.

6 years ago, Allison was diagnosed with breast cancer and when the doctor delivered somedevastating news about her not being able to carry a child, her sweet twin sibling came to the rescue.

"Dawn accompanied me to one of my doctor's appointments and as we sat in my oncologist's office and he said to me if you survive this, you will never be able to carry another child," Allison revealed in a Facebook post shared by their photographer friend.
"Well before he even finished his sentence Dawn jumped in and said it doesn't matter because I am going to carry their child. You kept that promise through all the devastating highs and lows, but throughout it all, you have been constant in your optimism, support and loving care for us."

Dawn gave birth to Hudson William earlier this month but before that the 2 sisters posed together tocommemorate this amazing time in their lives.

Dawn kept the baby's gender from Allison!

In the same Facebook post, Allison went on to thank her sister for the precious gift that she gave her.

"I have said this before, but I have to say it again. Dawn, you amaze me! You are my hero and I have never been more proud of you. You deserve a medal of courage, of compassion, and of selflessness," Allison wrote.
"How can we begin to thank you for the tremendous generosity and sacrifice you have so willingly bestowed these last few months? You have given us not just the fulfillment of a wish we've had for the last six years, but a whole new life, and a family of 4 we thought we'd never have."
