Emenike, Joel Obi, Haruna, Obiorah return
Super Eagles’ Head Coach, Sunday Oliseh, overlooked key senior players including Chelsea’s duo of Mikel Obi and Victor Moses as he released the list of 18 overseas- based professionals for next month’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Tanzania in Dar es Salaam.Watford striker and the scorer of one of the team’s goals in the 2-0 win over Chad in the first match of the qualifiers in June, Odion Ighalo, was not considered.
Manchester City’s youngster, Kelechi Iheanacho was also left out. However, Emmanuel Emenike, Esperance of Tunisia striker, Emem Eduok, injuryprone Joel Obi and Haruna Lukman returned to the team. Obiorah Nwankwo and Sylvester Igboun who are graduates of FC Ebidei, a club owned by Oliseh’s elder brother, Churchill, also got surprise invitations.
There are other new faces including Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme, and midfielder Izunna Ernest Uzochukwu from FC Amkar Perm, Russia. Regulars like Captain Vincent Enyeama, Godfrey Oboabona, Kenneth Omeruo and Ahmed Musa are also in the party.
According to a press release from the Assistant Director, Media of the Nigeria football Federation, Ademola Olajire, all the 18 players, who will join up with the 23 home boys, are expected in Abuja on Monday, August 31, at the latest. The Super Eagles take on Tanzania in Dar es Salaam on Saturday, September 5.
