Laide Bakare on shopping spree in US

Laide Bakare on shopping spree in US
An age-long Yoruba proverb says, ‘eni ba jale leekan, to ba d’aran b’ori, aso ole lo da b’ora’ which literally means that ‘when a man steals only once in his lifetime, no matter how rich his garbs; he has merely clad a robe of thievery.” According to a report published in Vanguard newspapers on May 2, 2014; “… the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has declared ‘wanted’ Alhaji Mutairu Atanda Orilowo, the new husband of popular Yoruba actress, Laide Bakare for alleged complicity in a case of criminal conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretences and stealing. The actress’ husband allegedly conspired with some past executives of MTN’s Employees Multipurpose Cooperative Society (MEMCOS), namely Victor Akintunde and Gani Mustapha to defraud members of the society through his company, PrimaVera Engineering and Construction Company a whooping sum of N2.5bn. Since the Alhaji has failed to show up to clear himself of all allegations, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) has declared him ‘wanted’ and recently obtained a forfeiture order on all his known properties.
It was reliably gathered that all his properties, including his two petrol filling stations in Ajah, his house at Ibeju Lekki on No. 1 Otunba Adeniyi Street, Papa-Epe, Lagos and the 2014 model of Bentley and the boutique he opened for his actress wife, Laide Bakare have been confiscated.” In defence of her husband, the actress once said; “I’m standing by my husband on this matter, believing that the EFCC publication was meant to destroy his hard-earned reputation as a philanthropist who derives joy in helping people. He is my hubby and I would stand by him through thick and thin. The story was also a calculated attempt to smear my own name as a celebrity and irrespective of whoever is behind it, I stand by my husband and we shall come out victorious.” The actress stood by her words, even as the legal matter remains unresolved. Since then, the actress (who seldom gets movie roles) relocated to the United States until recently when her shopping spree broke the Internet. She was photographed in New York shopping for some designer items from Louis Vuitton store. She allegedly also pampered herself with a new G-Wagon SUV.
