Ado Poly students elect leaders

Ado Poly students elect leaders
The students of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti (Ado Poly) last week elected students’ union leaders to steer the affairs of the union for the next academic session. The election came three months after the expiration of the tenure of the immediate past students’ union executive, led by Ajibola Oladapo, as the President. The election, which ought to have been conducted last semester, according to the students, was postponed due to unstable academic calendar during the semester and failure of the Students’ Senatorial Council to constitute the electoral committee for the conduct of the election.
A visit to all the four Faculties which served as polling units by Telegraph Campus revealed that the institution’s security officers were on patrols to maintain a peaceful atmosphere and ensured a hitch-free election. Despite their large turnout at the polling centres to cast their votes, the students were applauded for comporting themselves in a more civil manner by displaying commendable level of orderliness and discipline. At the end of the exercise, Jacob Oluwatuyi, a student of Building Technology Department emerged as the President.
While announcing the results at the polytechnic’s Multipurpose Hall, venue of the election collation centre, the Ado Poly Electoral Commission (APECO), declared Oluwatuyi as the President with 824 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Alao Olalekan, an undergradute of Science Technology Department, who had 409 votes. Aborisade Pelumi from Business Management Department had 371 votes to place third, while Lawal Taofeek of Computer Science came fourth with 172 votes. Other elected officers are Grace Emupene (General Secretary), Sunshine Tunde (Financial Secretary), Olayinka Johnson (Treasurer), Owoyemi Akinwale Desmond (Social Director) and Adeboboye Kunle (Welfare Director), while Oluwafemi Arowosafe is to seve as the Public Relations Officer and Lubi Judge as the Sports Director
