Don counsels African women to be agents of change
A Professor of African Literature and Women’s Studies at the Department of English, Faculty of Arts, University of Jos (UNIJOS), Prof. Maureen Amaka Azuike, has restated the need for African women to serve as committed agents of change and should be willing to assist the younger generation. This was as she noted that this has become necessary in order for the younger ones to embrace value orientation, moral rectitude and peaceful society. The don, while alluding to the “New Feminism Postulation,” said: “I, therefore, recommend that both men and women should make wise and sexually relevant decisions in their lives because the younger ones are watching and emulating their every step.” This was part of the views of Azuike in the 73rd inaugural lecture of the university, which was entitled: “Transcending Moral Boundaries in Contemporary African Women’s Writings, “Feminism and the Disillusionment of the Sexual Autonomous,” held at the university’s main auditorium.”
