Suspect: ‘I strangled, slit my relative’s throat to avoid delivering her school fees’
A student of Emmanuel Alayande College of Education in Oyo, Ajayi Johnson, who attempted to kill his relation following his refusal to deliver her school fees sent to her by her parents, is now cooling his feet at an Ibadan police cell.
Johnson was arrested by the Oyo State Police Command for allegedly strangulating and slitting the throat of his close relative and student of the Ekiti State University, Sarah Ajala.
The suspect Wednesday confessed to have spent the N47,000 belonging to the victim and had slit her throat to prevent returning the spent money which her parents sent to her through him.
While being paraded, Johnson said that Sarah had threatened to report him to the family if he did not pay her back her fees.
“When I spent my sister’s money I had no money and way of paying her back, so I went to her house, entered her room, strangled her and slit her throat with a knife. I then ran away to my house thinking she was dead,” he said.
The State Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Katsina, however, said that the victim was traced to his house in Oyo town by men of the police command after investigation revealed that he was the culprit.
He said that the victim, Sarah Ajala, was presently receiving treatment at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, and was getting better.
His words: “It is quiet unfortunate that a man would do such a terrible thing to his own relative. This goes to show the level of moral decadence in our society.
“The victim, one Miss Sarah Ajala, is presently receiving treatment at the University College Hospital and information reaching us says she is responding to treatment.”
Katsina also disclosed that a number of Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) were recovered in Ibadan during a search at a public function (area not disclosed to newsmen).
