Lagos State Government has given owners of hotels, nightclubs, event centres and entertainment centres till September to meet up with the safety requirements to avoid being shut down. Speaking at the weekend during a health walk to commend President Muhammadu Buhari for signing into law the nation’s Health and Safety Bill, the Director-General of the Lagos State Safety Board, Mrs Dominga Odebunmi, noted that the state had within the last two years invested so much on safety awareness campaign.
She said: “Well, the present situation on nightclubs, hotels, bars, event centres and entertainment houses is the fact that we have seen for a long time that the focus of the organisers of these places have always been the quest for money at the expense of safety of their patronisers. “But now, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode is saying that on the heels of advocacy, followup inspections and compliant monitoring that have been done, beginning from next month, that is, September.”
