Decapitated body found inside shop
The decomposing body of a man in his 50s identified as Ote Enu of Ofoke Okwerike village in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State was at the weekend found in his shop at a market in the area. This came as a 20-year-old man reportedly committed suicide in Lagos yesterday.
In the Ebonyi State incident, there was an offensive odour in the area where Enu’s shop is located which prompted some of the residents to flee. One of the residents said this prompted those who did not flee to begin a search for the source of the unpleasant odour. “We insisted on the search as the odour did not stop. Dogs and flies were moving around the shop of the deceased which made us to suspect that something happened inside there. “A bicycle was seen at the back of the shop but the door was locked from inside.
This increased our suspicion and we decided to break the door. “On entry, the man was found lying motionless with the head already severed from the body,’’ one of the residents said. When the news filtered into the village, the villagers who were celebrating their new yam festival otherwise known as Ojiji Izzi, described Enu’s death as abomination and ordered immediate evacuation of the body. A family source told our correspondent that the deceased was last seen on the last Ofoke Market day which ushered in the new yam festival.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Chris Anyanwu, could not be reached for comment. In the Lagos incident, the body of the yet-to-be identified man was found dangling on a tree at Agboju on Lagos- Badagry Expressway. Passers-by said nobody knew the reason behind the man’s death, while his family members were yet to come to identify him.
A man, who craved anonymity, said the body had been taken away by policemen attached to Agboju Police Station. The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Patricia Amadin, could not be reached for confirmation as her mobile phone lines were switched off.
