Tsav urges Buhari, IG to intervene in Benue killings
The former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari and the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, to urgently intervene in the spate of killings in Benue State. Tsav made the appeal in an interview with New Telegraph in his Makurdi residence at the weekend. He said the intervention of the President and the police boss in the killings would further prevent the state from being plunged into anarchy.
The police commissioner was reacting to the killing of over seven people in the Sankera area of Benue North-East, including a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Elder Atoza Hindan, in Katsina Ala Local Government area of the state. “Within one month, thirteen people have been killed in the area, seven of which are PDP members.
“Ironically, both the Security Adviser and the Security Officer to Governor Samuel Ortom, are from the area; yet they cannot stop these senseless killings. “These killings seem to have political undertone and I call on President Muhammadu Buhari and the Inspector General of Police to come to our rescue.” Already, Governor Ortom has condemned the killings, saying the trend has become unacceptable and directed the security agencies to rise up to the occasion by tracking the perpetrators and bring them to book.
