Bus driver hacked to death in Ebonyi
Unknown persons have hacked a commercial driver to death at Okwor Idiokpo Market Road in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. Augustine Obaji, 36, was murdered with axes mid-night last Saturday.
The driver had loaded passengers from Odumoke market to Okwor Ngbo market and had a conversation with his wife over the phone, who had contacted him to know how he was doing and when he would return home only for his line to be unavailable for some hours. And when he failed to return home his family became uncomfortable.
The following day, the relatives including the younger brother Emeka Obaji, started looking for him and later saw his vehicle along Idiokpo Road.
On getting closer, they discovered his dead body. The contacted the Okwor Ngbo police division, who evacuated the corpse.
A source said the victim had struggled with another driver on whose turn it was to load, leading to the exchange of words between the two.
But another source from Okwor Ngbo market claimed that Augustine, after discharging passengers, was persuaded by a  businesswoman  in the market to take her to Idiokpo market but after a while the duo were not seen.
The source maintained that gunmen have been terrorizing the Okwor Ngbo market especially on the market days, dispossessing people of their money and belongings.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Chris Anyanwu said Augustine was murdered with an axe by hoodlums on his way back home, adding that investigations were on to bring the perpetrators to book.
