Al-Makura v Makua: Tribunal grants Maku’s motion to inspect election materials

Al-Makura v Makua: Tribunal grants Maku’s motion to inspect election materials
The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital on Friday ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to allow Maku’s counsel to inspect election materials used in the April 11, governorship election in the state.
Former Minister of Information and governorship candidate of the All
Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), in the 2015 governorship election in Nasarawa State, Mr. Labran Maku is challenging the victory of Governor Tanko Al-Makura of the All Progressives Congress (APC), at the election petition tribunal.
Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Halima Muhammed gave the order at the tribunal sitting on Friday in Lafia said the earlier motion granted by the tribunal still stands as application by the 3rd
respondent was indolence.
She warned counsels and parties in the petition to desist from act of indolence and technicality reminding them that the 180 days given the tribunal in which to depose the petition was sacrosanct.
It would be recalled that the earlier order by the tribunal to allowed Maku’s counsel to inspect the election materials used in the April  11 2015 governorship election was denied by INEC, the third respondent.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after the sitting, counsel to the INEC, Hassan Liman (SAN) assured that the commission would comply with the tribunal order to
avail electoral materials to the petitioner’s counsel for inspection.
Also speaking counsel to Maku, Solo Akuma commended the tribunal’s decision to allow them inspect election materials, saying it would go long way is dispensing justice in the petition
