Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Dave Umahi Thursday reversed the appointment of 16 Permanent Secretaries appointed by the immediate past administration of Martin Elechi one week to the end of the administration.
He took the decision in a meeting with the leadership of the organised labour in the state; the NLC, TUC and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) at the Akanu Ibiam International Conference Centre, Abakaliki.
He noted that there is no fund in the state as his administration inherited empty treasury from the past administration and that appointing new permanent secretaries means creating more problems as the state finds it difficult to pay workers’ salaries.
He called on workers of the state to be ready to make some sacrifices in his administration even as he solicited for their co-operation.
He lamented the poor sanitary condition of the state and directed that the SSG to go round the environment on the spot assessment and sacked the General Manager of the state Environmental Protection Agency (EBSEPA) if the refuse heaps that littered the state and the blocked drains were not cleared.
Umahi, who terminated the contract of contractors lately appointed by the past administration for the evacuation of refuse dumps in the capital city, directed the previous contractors engaged by the government to take over the job to ensure that the environment was properly cleaned.
