10 Of Nigeria’s Most Loved Entertainers


Apart from being popular, these stars have succeeded in taking Nigeria’s entertainment industry to a whole new level and have worked very hard on their looks, skills and talent.

They are known internationally and loved by most everyone.

Here is the list of Nigeria’s 10 most loved entertainers in no particular order:

1. D’banj


Dapo Daniel Oyebanjo (popularly known as D’banj) is a Nigerian singer-songwriter, harmonica player, and businessman. D’banj is best known internationally for his 2012 summer hit “Oliver Twist”, an up tempo dance fusion of Afrobeat and electronic dance music that topped the African charts 2011 and was a top 10 hit in the UK singles chart in 2012 reaching #2 on the UK R&B chart.

This Koko master has won several music awards, including the awards for Best African Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2007, Artist of the Year at the MTV Africa Music Awards 2009, Best International Act: Africa at the BET Awards 2011, and Best-selling African Artist at the 2014 World Music Awards.

2. Omotola Jalade Ekeinde


Omotola’s acting career and fame has got her name featured as Times Most Influential People in The World in 2013, a list that features the likes of Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Mitchell Obama,and other world personalities. Omotola has ammassed an enviable fan base with the press referring to her as ‘The African Magic’. She is the first African celebrity to receive over 1 million likes on her Facebook page and is also applauded for her remarkable humanitarian efforts. Over the years, Omotola has been a pioneer in the Nollywood film industry, successfully becoming the most watched actress in Africa.

In 2014, she was honoured by the Nigerian government as a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic, MFR for her contributions to Nigerian cinema.

3. Don Jazzy


Mavin boss and music mogul, Don Jazzy has gradually carved a niche for himself internationally. The businessman is a force to reckon and has collaborated with Jay-Z and Kanye West on the production of Lift Off, featuring Beyonce on the album Watch The Throne, released on 8 August 2011.

He was recently rated as the 36th “Most powerful celebrity in Africa” according to Forbes.

4. Genevieve Nnaji


Known as one of the most popular Nollywood actress and African actress, Genevieve was dubbed the Julia Roberts of Africa by Oprah Winfrey in an episode dubbed “Meet the Most Famous People in the World”.

Asides from being talented, Genevieve is not just popular in Nigeria but around the world and is mostly known as ‘Sharon Stone’.

She was also honoured as a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic by the Nigerian government for her contribution to Nollywood.

5. 2face Idibia




Innocent Ujah Idibia better known by his stage name 2face Idibia, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and record producer. Tu-Baba is one of the most decorated and successful Afro pop artists and one of the most bankable artists in Africa.

2Face has received one MTV Europe Music Award, one World Music Award, five Headies Awards(Hip-hop award), four Chanel O Music Video Awards and one BET award for his musical work, four MTV Africa Music Awards, one MOBO award, one KORA award, and numerous additional nominations.

6. P-Square


This two are said to have conquered the African music industry and have performed for various African presidents who never cease to invite them.On 4 April 2010, P-Square was named the Artist of the Year at the Kora Awards in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

7. Asa


Nigerian French singer, songwriter and recording artiste, Asa, is another very popular and loved entertainer around the world.

Aṣa won the prestigious French Constantin Award in 2008, where she was voted best fresh talent of 10 singers or groups by a jury of 19 music-industry specialists in Paris and was the Female Artist of The Year at the French Music Awards Victoires de la Musique.

8. MI


Jude Abaga, M.I, meaning Mr Incredible, is a Nigerian Hip hop Artist who has won several awards including the MTV Africa Music Awards 2009 and was Nominated for BET 2010 Awards for the Best International Act Category.

He calls himself the ‘Chairman’.

9. Davido


Self acclaimed Omo Baba Olowo (OBO) is an American-born Nigerian recording artist, performer and record producer. The act has also collaborated with various foreign artiste’s including Akon and is expecting another track featuring American rapper Meek Miles and Wale.

Davido has won a BET Award, a Kora Award, a Channel O Music Video Award, a Ghana Music Award, a Nigeria Music Video Award, two MTV Africa Music Awards, two African Muzik Magazine Awards, five The Headies Awards, seven Nigeria Entertainment Awards and two Dynamix All Youth Awards, among others.

10. Wizkid


This young and talented Nigerian musician, Wizkid has earned himself a worldwide fan base with his energetic tunes and reliable performances. The artiste has got a BET Award, a MOBO Award, three Headies Awards, two Channel O Music Video Awards, four Nigeria Entertainment Awards, a Ghana Music Award, two Dynamix All Youth Awards, two City People Entertainment Awards, and a Future Award. In addition, he has been nominated four times at the World Music Awards and was ranked 5th on Forbes and Channel O‘s 2013 list of the Top 10 Richest/Bankable African Artists.
