NPDC workers protest non-payment of salaries

Contract workers of the Nigeria Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) under the auspices of Eriemu Field Workers Forum, Ughelli North Local Government area of Delta State, yesterday protested the non-payment of their six months’ salaries and bonuses owed them by the company.
The workers vowed that they will not resume duties until their demands have been met, saying the company will not operate until all their entitlements have been paid.
In a protest letter addressed to the Commanding Officer, 222 Battalion of the Nigeria Army and made available to newsmen yesterday, the protesting workers decried the deplorable condition under which they were working and berated the company for allegedly denying them their salaries since last year. The workers also accused the management of not providing them with Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure their safety.
According to the Chairman of the forum, Mr. Freeborn Adjanakpo and Secretary, Comrade Benjamin Ogbidjara, “NPDC has proposed to hand over surveillance and flow line guards’ contracts to the communities through the Community Development Board (CDB).
