Osun gets kudos on training of teachers

The Osun State government has received kudos from the Executive Secretary of Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Dikko Suleiman, for training teachers in its employ.

Speaking at a five-day training and capacity building programme for Quality Assurance Officers of the state Universal Basic Education Board, Local Government Education Authorities and Zonal Inspectors of Education, Suleiman noted that the state had taken bold steps in organising the training workshop.

Suleiman, who was represented by a top official of the commission, Mr. Yaya Amuda, said the training was designed to achieve qualitative education as stipulated in the Education for All (EFA) goals 2 and 6 as well as the education-related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) through the concerted practice of quality assurance in schools.

He assured that the state Universal Education Boards will include training on quality assurance in their Teacher Professional Development (TPD) with effect from this year.

Earlier, the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Prince Felix Awofisayo, said the workshop would help improve the standard of education, particularly in ensuring quality in the education sector.
