Jonathan's Trusted Men In The South-West

As Nigerians cast their votes for their favourite candidates today in the presidential and national assembly elections, many analysts are focused on the South-West region of the country as the region has been identified as the battle ground for the presidential contest.
While some analysts have predicted a victory for incumbent, President Goodluck Jonathan, others have argued that opposition candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari is favoured to capture the majority votes from the zone.

Dgossip247 brings to you, foot-soldiers of President Jonathan in the region, who are expected to make extra efforts today to convince voters in the region to cast their votes in favour of their political principal.

1. Governor Olusegun Mimiko: All eyes will be on the 60-year medical doctor turned politician in the region today becuase of his strategic role as the president’s campaign coordinator in the region. The governor who suffered a political setback recently as his deputy defected to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), has his work cut out for him as he has an uphill task to convince voters in his home-state Ondo and indeed beyond to vote for Nigeria’s no 1 citizen.

2.Governor Ayo Fayose: Perharps Nigeria’s most controversial public officer, the Ekiti state governor has been a thorn in the flesh of the APC. From his adverts, to his press releases and the personal attacks on Buhari. Fayose has shown that he his a trusted ally of the president. His popularity in his home-state and indeed beyond will no doubt give the president an advantage in the polls.

3. Chief Gani Adams: He is the head of the militant arm of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC). His declaration of support for the president’s ambition at the last minute is a major boost for the president’s campaign. It is also worthy to note that the president already has the support of another faction of the group headed by Chief Fredrick Fasheun. Adams is expected to rally his subordinates across the region to cast their votes for the president.

4. Senator Musiliu Obanikoro: Fondly called “Koro” by his admirers, he is one man the president is relying on to deliver Nigeria’s most populated state, Lagos to the PDP. Extremely popular in the region, the former Nigerian Ambassador of Ghana is so important to the president’s ambition that the president had to dispatch the vice president, Alhaji Namadi Sambo, to appeal to him not to dump the party after he was allegedly rigged out in the PDP gubernatorial primary election in Lagos.

5.Buruji Kashamu: Even the “Jagaban Borgu”, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu will shiver at this man’s deep pocket. An asset to the PDP in the south-west, Kashamu, like Obanikoro was on ground in Ekiti state to deliver the state to the PDP. He is one man the president will be counting on to deliver the south west to the PDP alongside his comrades listed above.

Meanwhile, Gani Adams has accused Bola Tinubu, of using Yorubas as a pawn in the pursuit of his selfish political interest.
