US police hunt for sex offender after quadruple shooting
Maine police are hunting a registered sex offender after the shootings of four people in three different towns in the northeastern US state.
Anthony Lord, 35, who is believed to be in a stolen logging truck, is considered armed and dangerous, said officials.
Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said on Friday that four people had been shot overnight in Lee, Benedicta and Silver Ridge.
The identities and conditions of the victims were not immediately known, reports Sky News.
It is not clear what prompted the shooting spree or if the gunman knew the victims.
The search is focused in the Lee area, not far from the border with Canada.
Householder Angela White, of Smyrna, told the ‘Bangor Daily News': “I am keeping my kids in the house and locking all the doors and windows.”
Lord is listed as a lifetime registrant of the Maine sex offenders’ registry.
He was convicted in 2004 of three counts of unlawful sexual contact with a person under the age of 14, according to local media.
