House Leader: We are studying Dogara’s letter – Oyegun
National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun Friday stated that the national leadership of the party was studying the letter written to it by the Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara.
Hon. Dogara had on July 16 written a letter to the National Executive of APC informing them of the zoning of the Principal Offices of the House by the APC House Caucus.
In that letter, the office of the House Leader was zoned to North West, Deputy House Leader, North Central, Chief Whip, South South and Deputy Chief Whip, South East.
The zoning contained in Dogara’s letter was at variance with the zoning of the national leadership of the party contained in the letter sent to Dogara earlier by the APC National Chairman.
In that letter, the APC had zoned the House Leader to South West, with Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila laying claim to it.
The Oyegun’s letter for the zoning of Principal Offices of the House had attracted controversy in the last one month with Hon Gbajabiamila laying claim to the House Leader position.
But to resolve the controversies, Dogara wrote to APC national chairman: “To resolve this problem, we had offered that some of the aggrieved members of our party, APC who lost the election of the presiding officers to produce some of the remaining principal officers for peace to reign.
“For emphasis, we have conceded the position of the House Leader and Chief Whip to those aggrieved as long as the persons should not come from the North East or South West zones that have already produced the Speaker and Deputy Speaker.”
But in his response to the letter Friday, Oyegun said: “We are studying the letter”.
A member of the National Working Committee had earlier stated that the party would push for Hon. Gbajabiamila to become the Leader of the House on the “Doctrine of Necessity”.
