Father of five seeks kidney donor, N15m

Father of five seeks kidney donor, N15m
A father of five, Mr Benedict Ohanwadi, is critically ill and in dire need of kidney transplant. His two kidneys failed last year and since then he has been bedridden. Ohanwadi has to undergo dialysis twice every week.
Trouble started in 2012 when he developed pains around his abdomen and doctors told him it was hernia. He was operated upon and recovered. But in 2014, he was diagnosed with renal failure. He was admitted at the Imo State Teaching Hospital, Orlu, where he was being taken care of and monitored to secure the second kidney.
He was discharged in December 2014 based on doctors’ advice which was informed by financial constraints. But a few days later, he relapsed and was returned to the hospital.
According to his elder brother, Mr John Ohanwadi, the family has exhausted its resources on treating Benedict, who now needs a donor and financial assistance.
The burden has been overwhelming hence the family is appealing to the government at all levels and well-meaning Nigerians for urgent assistance.
Though he has high hopes of recovery, Benedict is unable to walk without assistance. He has been referred to India or Germany for a renal transplant by his medical consultant, Dr Anyabu, of the Imo State University Teaching Hospital.
He is appealing to Nigerians, religious groups, politicians, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and the government of Imo State in particular to raise the cost of renal transplant estimated to be about N15 million.
This includes cost of drugs, flight tickets for the patient and the kidney donor, among other related expenses. Benedict can be reached at 10, Bus Stop, Old Nekede, Owerri West Local Government Area, or through his mobile lines 08138125825 and 08168941729. Donations can also be sent to Ben C. Ohanwadi, Account N0: 3078831747, First Bank Plc, Owerri.
