The former Lagos state Commissioner for Health Jide Idris has urged the Federal Government to take adequate precautionary measures against the return of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).
Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Idris made the call following the resurgence of the disease in Liberia.
He also called for more vigilance at the nation’s border posts to prevent the entry of people who might be infected with the virus.
He added that we should not let down our guards as a country especially because we still do not have proper public health infrastructure.
He further charged that there should be public enlightenment, imbibing people with the conduct of hand washing and good personal hygiene.
"We need to take charge of our own health. Government has a role to play; the people themselves have a role to play. So, these are the issues. The health sector is complex, but without it, we cannot have economic progress. Whether we like it or not, the people have to be healthy before they can be very productive" he said
Liberia is currently battling a resurgence of the Ebola virus in the country and so far, 5 people have been diagnosed with the disease.
