The six officers who were arrested in Freddie Gray’s death have been released on bail in Baltimore, United States, report says.
The officers, three white and three black, include a lieutenant with 17 years on the force, several near-rookies and a woman who had just been promoted to sergeant.
Following their arrest, six of them appeared before a judicial officer and bail was set at $350,000 for four of them, and $250,000 for the other two.
Citing court records, New York Timesreports that the officers were released from jail on Friday night.
Report says most serious charges were brought against the driver of the van that carried Gray to a police station after he was arrested on April 12. He was charged with involuntary manslaughter andsecond-degree depraved heart murder(which means indifference to human life.
On Friday May 1, calm returned to troubled Baltimore after state’s attorney and chief prosecutor in Gray’s death, Marilyn J. Mosby, put six police officers on an unfamiliar side of the law, as a warrant of arrest was issued for them.
The six officers have been charged with a range of crimes including murder and manslaughter in the arrest and fatal injury of Freddie Gray, the 25-year-old man whose death on April 19 sparked outrage that drew national and international attention.
Report says Mosby, who is said to be the youngest prosecutor in any major American city, filed the charges almost as soon as she received a medical examiner’s report that ruled Gray’s death a homicide – the move many have applauded.
