Buhari’s Victory, A New Beginning For Nigeria – Opadokun

Coordinator of the Coalition of Democrats for Electoral Reforms, Ayo Opadokun, on Tuesday, described the victory of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) in Saturday’s polls as the beginning of the remaking of Nigeria.
“I feel that the Nigeria state can now start on a clean state,” Opadokun said, describing the tenure of President Goodluck Jonathan as a great disappointment.

The CODER coordinator spoke with our correspondent in a telephone interview.

He said, “This is the remaking of the Nigerian nation. It is the remaking of the Nigerian project. There is no doubt that two or three critical things have been wrong with the Nigerian geographical expression. The national structure had remained lopsided. This negative national structure had provided for dishonesty at the highest level of governance and Nigeria has suffered shame from the international community because of indiscipline.

“Those three ailments can now be cured by the rightly headed leadership that Buhari will represent.

“It is not a matter of conjecture that one that spent 15 or 16 months in office between January 1984 and when he was toppled by General Ibrahim Babangida, laid the rules for discipline, living by example and intolerance for anything that is dishonest in any way . He made significant impact on the Nigerian geographical expression.”

Opadokun said Nigeria could now witness a new beginning with a combination of Buhari and his running mate, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, who he described as a disciplined and acclaimed professional.

“Nigerians who have been agitating for a real definition of the Nigerian state now have an opportunity to repackage Nigeria,” he said.

Asked to advise President Jonathan on what to do next, Opadokun said, “I have no advice for him. He has been a great disappointment, a great let-down for him and I even question whether or not he truly earned a PhD.”
