Ambode Replaces LASTMA GM, Names Successor

Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode‎ Friday relieved the General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA‎), Engr Babatunde Edu of his duty and announced Mr Bashir Ademuyiwa Braimoh as his successor.

No reason was given for the replacement of the LASTMA Boss, but New Telegraph gathered tha‎t the appointment was part of the re-engineering plans of Ambode, who is poised at eradicating arrest of vehicles on the road and implementing better strategies on traffic law enforcement.
This was even as confusion Friday greeted the release of vehicles impounded by the LASTMA as ordered by the governor, who directed that all the impounded vehicles in the LASTMA headquarters be released within 24 hours after paying an unscheduled visit to the Oshodi headquatres of the agency on Wednesday.
New Telegraph learnt that Governor Ambode at a meeting with top officials of the state Ministry of Transportation, also directed LASTMA officials to consider alternatives traffic management methods rather than physical apprehension and arrest.

He reiterated his commitment to running a humane government, adding that his administration was not interested in generating revenue by making lives difficult for the motorists and residents in the state.

Rather than impounding vehicles for several days or months, Ambode said a more reasonable approach to enforcement of the traffic law would be embraced as booking of traffic offenders would be implemented without aggression or causing traffic gridlock on the roads in the process of enforcing the law.
