UI mourns DLI student

The management of the Distance Learning Centre (DLC), University of Ibadan has expressed concern over the sudden death of a first year student the institution, Pelewura Bolaji, who slumped and died during the ongoing First Semester examination in Lagos over the weekend.
The management through its Director, Professor Bayo Okunade, in a statement he issued yesterday in Ibadan, the examinations have been suspended as a mark of respect for the deceased, promising to get back to the students on Tuesday to give further directive on the re-commencement of the remaining examinations.
Okunade thanked the students who took the examination at the Adebayo Akande, Oba Akran Centre, Lagos for averting any break down of law and order as a result of the unfortunate incident.
He commiserated with the family of the deceased and appreciated those who had got release from their working places to write the examinations for the inconveniences the death might have caused them. Bolaji had written a first paper when he complained of headache and that he needed to rest before the second examination, POS 111.
Bolaji who wore an identity card of Green Games Specialties Limited which had expired in September, 2014, slumped and died at around 1.45 p.m. As there were no medical facilities like ambulance or first aid kit on ground, the student was reported to have been kept in a car while the examination was ongoing.
He was later conveyed to the Lagos State Teaching Hospital where he was rejected on the claim that he was brought in dead. Having gasped later when he was returned to the examination centre, Bolaji was said to have been rushed again to the Lagoon Hospital on Awolowo Way, where he was subsequently pronounced dead.
