Traders at the Araromi Oke- Odo Market at Abule Egba area of Lagos have called on Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to save them from incessant harassment by members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). The traders accused the NURTW members of trying to take over the market although it was not a park.
In a statement issued by the Araromi Oke-Odo Market Association yesterday and signed by the Iyaloja, Modupe Sonola, and others, the traders said the NURTW members were acting contrary to the directive of their association. They said the Iyaloja General, Mrs Folashade Tinubu- Ojo, had already stopped all forms of ticketing in the market by NURTW. The traders added that they also wanted Ambode to intervene to put a stop to illegality in the market.
The statement averred that the crisis at the market had the capacity to portray the state government as one which encouraged lawlessness and brigandage as it had always been the case whenever NURTW members unleash mayhem across the state. The statement reads in part: “We, in Araromi Oke- Odo Market hereby hope that the action of the Iyaloja General to clean all markets in Lagos State of miscreants needs to be supported and backed by the state government so as to further portray the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a party that truly comes to save the nation of activities that had for years portrayed Nigeria as a lawless country.”
