Women’s Soccer League: Oshoala puts Arsenal to the sword
Reigning African Women’s footballer of the year, Asisat Oshoala was in supreme form on Sunday helping Liverpool Ladies to a 3-1 win over Arsenal in the Women’s Soccer League (WSL).
Oshoala netted a brilliant goal-the third for Liverpool-in the 88th minute of the comprehensive win at Meadowpark, Boreham Wood.
The Super Falcons striker was substituted in the seconds later with Line Smorsgard taking her place.
Fara Williams and Becky Easton were the other goal scorers for Liverpool Ladies who have now closed the gap on second placed Arsenal to just three points.
Oshoala’s performance on Sunday delighted the team manager of (her former club), Rivers Angels, Matilda Otuene who took the time to reveal the early challenges the 20-year-old faced at the club.
“It was difficult for Asisat at the beginning. We spoke on the phone almost on a daily basis back then and she confessed that it was hard for her to adapt to the new culture at first.
“I urged her not to give up and I knew she would come good because she’s a very strong person.
“I am quite pleased that the goals have begun to come now,” Otuene, Rivers Angels supremo, told supersport.com.
Oshoala has now scored three league goals for Liverpool in the WSL following her arrival at the club from Rivers Angels.
She netted in the 2-1 wins over Birmingham City and Manchester City on April 1 and 26 respectively.
Liverpool are currently in sixth place in the eight-team WSL standings with nine points after six matches.
