Table Tennis: Union Bank depart for Cameroon Wednesday
Nigeria’s representatives in the men’s team event of the International Table Tennis Federation sanctioned African Club Championship holding in Cameroon, Union Bank Table Tennis Club of Lagos, will depart the country on Wednesday. The annual championship runs from July 22 to 26 in the Cameroonian capital, Yaoundé.
The Union Bank side, coached by Samson Ajayi, is made up of five players. They are David Faleye, Ahmed Bello, Wale Olaniyi , Ogunalade Azeez and junior sensation, Nurudeen Hassan. Union Bank choice was based on their excellent performance at the 2014 Nigerian Table Tennis Championship held from October 9-14, 2014 at the Late Molade Okoya Thomas multi-purpose hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, according to the Nigeria Table- Tennis Federation.
Ajayi said he is optimistic of a good outing in Cameroon and is confident of re-enacting their 2009 exploit when, led by Aruna Qadri, the team finished in third place in Togo. ‘’We also did well in 2009 when we represented Nigeria in Togo and came back with Third position trophy. We also represented Nigeria in 2010 and 2011 in morocco where we finished third due to some traveling delays’’ Coach Ajayi stated.
