Shun violence, Umahi tells Muslim community

Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, on Friday, urged the Muslim community in the state to shun violence and endeavor to keep their environment clean.

Umahi, who made this known in Abakliki, during a courtesy visit by the Muslim community at the Exco-chamber, urged them to observe proper hygiene to avoid the wrath of the government.

The governor, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Mr. Kelechi Igwe, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for participating in and completing the fasting exercise and prayed for God to continue to sustain him and grant him good health as he continues to pilot the affair of the country.

He commended the Muslim community for voting for him massively during the last general elections and urged them to continue to support his administration and maintain peace and order in the state.

He pleaded with the workers in the state to exercise patience, adding that the welfare of the workers would be prioritized. He noted that the quest to remove all ghost workers in schools in the state from the payroll was the reason the state had not paid the workers.

He stated that the state government would hold Muslims in the state responsible for any incident of violence or crisis in their area of residence, noting that the state is known for peace and order.

Earlier, the leader of the Muslim community, Alhaji Muhammad Obiahu Ajah, commended the efforts of the governor in piloting the affairs of the state and pledged his community’s support for the governor’s fight against corruption through his anti graft posture.

Obiahu condemned the increasing bomb attacks on Nigerians by Boko Haram in the North, stressing that “Islam does not preach terrorism. The resolve by some miscreants to unleash terror on innocent citizens in some parts of the country is highly absurd and condemnable. We disassociate ourselves from such un- Islamic act.”
