Senator alleges plot to implicate him in job scam
Senator Athan Achonu (Imo North) has petitioned the Inspector- General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase over the activities of a notorious fraudster. He said that the fraudster was using his name (senator) to extort money from unsuspecting job seekers, promising to secure employment into the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and other government agencies. Achonu, in a statement in Abuja yesterday, alleged that the fraudster impersonated him to obtain money from these unsuspecting job seekers across the country.
According to him, the fraudster in a Facebook account opened with his photograph (Senator Achonu), was demanding huge sums of money from the unsuspecting job seekers to help them secure job. The politician, in a letter to the IGP dated July 15 and made available to journalists in Abuja at the weekend, alleged that the impersonator had for the purpose of defrauding these job seekers, opened a dedicated account with GTB, with account number 0153953807 and account name “Osedebamen James.
