PDP holds congresses in Kogi, Anambra Tuesday

PDP holds congresses in Kogi, Anambra Tuesday
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will hold ward, local government and state congresses in Kogi and Anambra States Tuesday.
The congresses in Anambra State are to elect party executives at the ward, local government and state levels while that of Kogi is to elect party delegates for the forthcoming governorship primaries.
PDP has been without elected party executives in Anambra State for over 10 years. Appointed caretaker committees have been running the affairs of the party since then, which has been described as undemocratic.
This has given rise to crisis and many court actions, which are believed to have contributed the failure of PDP to win the Anambra governorship ticket since 2003.
The party in a statement on Sunday explained that the conduct of the congresses was in obedience with court order.
The Kogi State congress is as a result of the cancellation of the June 27 ward delegates congresses by the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) due to what it called “the participation of a ‘local organising committee’ which it said, is unknown to the constitution of the party and the guidelines.”
Since the cancellation, the state governor, Captain Idris Wada had visited the PDP National Secretariat twice for consultations with the party leadership.
It was gathered that the cancelled congress was in his favour, and he been reportedly instigating ‎organised protests by his supporters in the state for the reversal.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa States for November 21 and December 5, 2015 respectively.
Incidentally, Governor Wada and his Bayelsa State counterpart, Hon. Seriake Dickson are seeking re-election.
Going by the tradition of the party, ‎the two governors ought to have been given automatic ticket to fly the party’s flag and therefore, saved the rigours of going through the primaries.
