A 46-year-old of mother of three, simply identified as Mrs Ajibola, on Tuesday night hung herself at Ajebamidele area of Ado-Ekiti, after she reportedly showed signs of mental illness. According to some of her neighbours, Ajibola had earlier behaved strangely, reportedly confessing to have spiritually attacked some people in the neighbourhood.
Before she committed suicide, Ajibola had earlier in the day told some people that she would hold a press briefing where she would tell the whole world some strange things that had happened. “It was when some of us arrived to listen to what she had to tell us that we discovered that she was nowhere to be found.
“It was when we were searching for her that we saw her dangling body on the roof in her house,” a neighbour said.
The source said the victim had been sick and treated several times. He added: “Many times, she had threatened to take her own life. There was even a time she said she would jump into the well and we had to announce to all landlords that they should make sure that all wells are well secured and covered to avoid any mishap.”
Another witness, who also craved anonymity, said the deceased was full of life when she saw her on Tuesday morning, describing her as gentle and jovial.
She said: “It is unfortunate that we lost her but I think she had been sick for some time.” The bungalow house of the deceased has been deserted and locked. At Ologede Police Station, where the case was reported, a senior police officer referred our correspondent to the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Alberto Adeyemi, for details.
