A 25-year-old man, Olagunju Waheed, who allegedly entered a church premises with a copy of the Holy Quran, is facing trial at a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
A resident of No. 8, Aje St., Sabo, Yaba, the accused is arraigned on a charge of breach of public peace.
The prosecutor, Insp. Nwosu George, told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 12 at about 80.00 a.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Yaba.
“The accused, armed with a copy of the Holy Quran, was found loitering at the church premises when a security guard approached him and asked what his mission was.
“The accused could not give a satisfactory explanation why he was there and he was immediately apprehended.’’
The offence, George noted, contravened Section 166 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, denied the charge.
Ruling on the accused’s bail application, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Erinle, granted him bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum, reports the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The case has been adjourned to August 26 for trial.
