Businessman beheaded in Ebonyi, house burnt

Businessman beheaded in Ebonyi, house burnt
A businessman, Nwabueze Ogboji of Ebisike-Obegu village, Enyibichiri Community in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State was in the wee hours of the Sunday beheaded in his compound in the area by yet to be identified persons.
His neighbours, who did not want their name in print, told New Telegraph that there was heavy shooting in the compound of the deceased which lasted for several hours when his house was invaded in the mid-night.
They explained that the heavy shootings coupled with the odd hour of the incident scared them from coming out to rescue Ogboji, adding that when the shootings stopped they saw his compound engulfed by fire which they believed was set alight by the attackers.
Ogboji’s neighbours noted that on Sunday morning, the beheaded body of the victim, riddled with bullet holes, was discovered in another compound.
The people maintained that after murdering the deceased, the killers cut off his neck and used an axed to severe his jaw from the head may be in anger that their bullets refused to penetrate his body.
They added that they heard Ogboji’s wife during the attack by the hoodlums pleading with the husband’s killers to spare their lives.
The neighbours noted that in 1997 in the same area, Ogboji’s compound was also invaded by unknown persons, but he was fortunate to escape death as he had one of his legs broken during the attack while his three friends lost their lives which forced the residents to flee the area.
As at the time of filing this report, the area was deserted, as people feared being arrested by the police.
Late Ogboji was a businessman. He stored all sorts of goods in his house, which was burnt by the killers.
Contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Chris Anyanwu, who confirmed the incident to our correspondent, said he was still expecting the official report from the Ikwo Divisional Police in the area.
He condemned the killing and assured that the perpetrators will be brought to book.
