Suspected cultists kill middle-aged man in Ebonyi



There was pandemonium Thursday in Oroke Onuoha Community in Ebonyi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State following the killing of a middle-aged man by suspected cultists.
The middle-aged man, whose name was simply given as Agu and who hails from Oriuzor Community, Ezza North Local Government Area of the state, was shot dead in his shop at Oroke-Onuoha Market Square.
An eyewitness, Okoro Benard told New Telegraph that the cultists numbering four stormed the deceased shop at 11: pm and shot him twice in the chest, leading to his death.
He added that Agu, who sold provisions, food stuffs and other items, opened the shop seven months ago with high patronage and has been having problems with some ‘guys’ in the area for some time now.
“Agu came down from Oriuzor and established the shop here. But since he started the business, some boys in the area have been disturbing him for settlement that they are the area boys and at times they use to quarrel seriously.
“But to our great surprised yesterday, we were in deep sleep when the sound of a gunshot woke me up because am living close to the place. People were shouting ‘help o! Help o! They have shot Agu!’
“When I rush to the scene, I saw the guy lying lifeless in a pool of blood,” the eyewitness disclosed.
He maintained that cultists have been terrorizing the area and always dispossess people of their belongings especially in the night, adding that his younger sister has fallen victim of their activities with his blackberry handset snatched from her on the way to home after buying foodstuffs at the popular Oroke-Onuoha Market.
He called on the police to beef up security in the area to checkmate the activities of hoodlums.
Meanwhile, the market has been temporarily shut down and security agents taken over the area while people especially the youths have deserted the area for fear of arrest.
