APC summons its N’Assembly members over leadership tussle

In a last ditch effort to stop acrimony in the selection of principal officers for the Senate and the House of Representatives, the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress has scheduled a meeting with its National Assembly members.
The APC leadership is to meet with Senators-elect and members-elect of the House of Representatives in Abuja on Thursday.
It was learnt in Abuja, on Tuesday, that the meeting is principally to seek a truce among the various contenders for the various positions in a way that party supremacy would be upheld.
A statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, announced that the party “will hold a crucial meeting with all its Senators-elect and House of Representatives members-elect on Thursday, the June 4 at the International Conference Centre in Abuja.”
The party explained that it would meet with its Senators-elect at 10am while the meeting with its elected members of the House of Representatives was scheduled for 2pm on the same day at the same venue.
It was learnt that party leaders were particularly concerned that if the tussle over the Senate Presidency between Senator Bukola Saraki and Senator Ahmed Lawan was not properly managed, it could fractionalise the party.
