The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected robbers ─ Ramoni Ambali, and Wasiri Ibiyemi ─ in Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area.
They were accused of being specialists in snatching motorcycles and cars.
They were arrested on Saturday by an anti-robbery team attached to the Ilaro Police Division at Ona Ogbon Community, after allegedly robbing one Agoro Wasiu of a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle marked, LAR 918 QB.
Other members of the gang were said to be on the run.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the policemen swung into action after receiving a distress call from an anonymous caller who witnessed the robbery.
He said, “The police immediately pursued the robbers, who were armed with cutlasses and other weapons, before Ramoni Ambali and Wasiri Ibiyemi were arrested, while the snatched motorcycle was recovered. The weapons were also recovered.
“However, the suspects inflicted injuries on the motorcyclist while trying to snatch the motorcycle from him.”
He added that the victim was recuperating in a hospital where he was rushed to after the incident.
Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Val Ntomchukwu, commended the anti-robbery team for the prompt intervention and arrest, ordering that the case be thoroughly investigated.
Adejobi said, “The commissioner has directed that the fleeing members of the gang be apprehended within a short time. He also assured the residents of adequate security, adding that the police will continue to tackle crime relentlessly from all angles.”
