PASTOR GETS ARRESTED FOR IMPERSONATING A POLICE OFFICER

Brandon Kiel, Tonette Hayes, and David Henry

A pastor along with two other people were arrested on charges of impersonating a police officer after allegedly running an illegal police force, police in California said.

The group claimed to be operating a police department with jurisdiction in 33 states and in Mexico.

Their website states that the police force was founded more than 3,000 years ago.

Brandon Kiel, 31, David Henry, 46, and Tonette Hayes, 59, were arrested on suspicion of impersonating officials as members of the Masonic Fraternal Police Department, the Los Angeles County Sheriff said.

Detectives believe that other people may be involved in the operation. Deputies found identification cards, uniforms and vehicles during a search of the homes and offices linked to the group.

Hayes is licensed as a security guard and has a firearm permit. Henry is also a licensed security guard and has a firearm permit. Kiel worked as deputy director of community affairs at the California Department of Justice.

The investigation began after several police chiefs received a letter announcing new leadership for the Masonic Fraternal Police Department.

Kiel was identified as its chief executive and Hayes the chief director.
