Aboderin named in FIBA-Africa Zone 3 committee



The Chairman, Dolphins Basketball Foundation, Wale Aboderin, has been named in a 15-man organising committee set up by FIBA-Africa Zone 3 for the inaugural 3×3 Tour slated for June.

The committee is headed by former Technical Committee chairman of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, Professor Adamu Ahmed, with Chairman, Lagos State Basketball Association, Babs Ogunade, as vice chairman.

Others on the list of the committee include General ManagerSuperSport West Africa, Felix Awogu; Emmanuel Olouha; and board member of FIBA-Africa Zone 3, Musa Adamu.

Two other board members, Lima Sidone (Benin Republic) and Iddrisu Ayambire (Ghana) are also in the committee. Others are Osita Nwachukwu, Frank Jituboh and Andrew Isokpehi.

Former Nigerian international Martina Emmanuel, Sports Editor of the The PUNCH, Pius Ayinor; the proprietor of Yelwa Hawks, Alhaji Tanko Dutse; were also listed, with Joseph Apu as secretary of the committee.

According to FIBA-Africa Zone 3 president, Col Sam Ahmedu (retd), the committee’s job is to ensure that the 3×3 Tour is one that will give the game a big boost.

He said, “The 3×3 Tour in June is going to be very interesting for all basketball stakeholders. The idea of the event is to ensure that we get countries in the zone to embrace the 3×3 version of basketball, which allows the players to express themselves.

“We’re committed to taking basketball in the zone to the next level. The eight national federations: Nigeria, Benin Republic, Togo, Ghana, Cote d’ Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Niger and Liberia will get to feel our impact through the various programmes we’ve lined up.”

Recently, FIBA-Africa Zone 3 took delivery of two basketball courts, courtesy of one of its major partners for the inaugural 3×3 championship.
