DStv Basketball: Customs take on Police Batons

Action will resume on Friday (today) in the Week Three matches of the DStv Basketball League as Customs of Lagos aimed at closing all borders against Police Batons of Lagos.
Customs, who are currently riding high with two straight victories, are determined to compound the Police team whose ego has been bruised, having lost two straight games. Customs is currently at the top of the Atlantic Conference, with two wins from two matches.

In their opening match, the team proved their level of readiness for the season as they edged past star-studded Union Bank of Lagos, 61-40.

The club went ahead to prove their first win was no fluke as they defeated returnees Delta Force of Asaba, 67-55, recording their best start so far in the last three seasons. The team finished in the fifth position among the eight conference teams in the 2013/2014 campaign.

Customs would send a strong signal to other contenders if they could out-run the Police team who are desperate for a first season win.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday, Customs coach, Scott Nnaji said that the team was confident of beating the Police Batons.

He said the Policemen were no pushovers, “but Customs as a skillful and youthful side, will overcome whatever hostilities the Police brings.

“We have a youthful side which is skilful and very talented, we are confident that in the end, our team’s style of play will overcome the physical style the Police team is known for. Our preparations, so far have been solid and we are eagerly anticipating the match day,’’ Nnaji said.

Marck Balogun, who is charge of the Police team, described the match as a must-win match for his side.

He said,“We have to get into winning ways. We cannot afford to lose the match to Customs, having lost two straight games already. So it’s a crucial match, interestingly their style of play is well known to us so we are very hopeful of picking the winning points at the end of the match.’’

Another game holding on Friday is the match between Union Bank and Oluyole Warriors of Ibadan.

Union Bank, who are yet to get over their two straight losses in the league games, will need to put a superlative performance to subdue the no nonsense Oluyole team.
