Boxers ask Ambode to sustain sports policy

Some Nigerian professional boxers on Wednesday called on the Lagos State Governor-elect, Akinwummi Ambode, to build on the sports structure laid by the outgoing government of Governor Babatunde Fashola.
The boxers, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos said that Fashola’s administration achieved so much in grassroots sports development.

A national champion, Olaide Fijabi (64kg), asked the incoming administration to continue with the sports development foundation laid by Fashola.

Isaac Ekpo and Adewale Abbey said sports blossomed in the state under Fashola.

“We wish the trend continues as many of us have benefitted from the system. I am one of the rare boxers trained by the Lagos State Boxing Association and today, I am in the professional circuit of my career” Fijabi said.

Ekpo, who is also a national champion, said sports blossomed in the state under the present administration.

He said that the zeal with which the current government in the state took sports development should be sustained by the incoming one.

“If the incoming government follows the Fashola blueprint for grassroots sports development, the state would remain a hub in Nigeria.

“The state in the last National Sports Festival did well, so, it is the duty of the Ambode administration to improve on what is on ground,” he said.
