Lawal Kaita Was Right, They Made Nigeria Ungovernable After 2011

When Lawal Kaita declared in 2011 that Nigeria would be ungovernable should Goodluck Jonathan become president, many dismissed it.

Today, we have witnessed concerted efforts at every turn to truly make the country ungovernable and to take the focus away from many other aspects of Nigerian lives.

All roads after that led to 2015.

The decimation of the Peoples Democratic Party - PDP - the key political player and the deterioration of the security situation in the North East is certainly connected to these statements whether we like it or not. Particularly concerning has been Information against the administration from close sources, intelligence leaks to Boko Haram, the unchallenged claims of a former CBN Governor, Soldiers allegedly donating equipment to the Boko Haram terrorist group.

The key agenda now for the main political power blocs is to move power back to the north and everyone is now aligned to do so behind General Muhammadu Buhari. That is why no credible candidate ran against him in the primaries from the Southern part of the country (well at least they had primaries for what it is worth). There was no Babatunde Fashola, Rotimi Amaechi or Adams Oshiomhole on the ballot box.

The militants who made headlines by blowing up pipelines and kidnapping foreign workers in a bid to control oil revenue have called for action should Jonathan’s main challenger, Buhari win the election.

Regardless of who wins Saturday election there will be crisis as the main candidates in the election hail from two of Nigeria’s most volatile areas. Buhari is from Kastina state in the north where Boko Haram reigns almost supreme and Jonathan is from Bayelsa State in the South-South, where the Niger Delta militants are based.

In 2011, post election violence was limited to Buhari's north. THE CONVERSATION however claims that the removal of President Jonathan from office may be as deadly as Buhari's defeat in 2011. The Niger
Delta region which feeds the entire nation will not take the removal of their son in good faith; pipelines will be vandalized, a few expatriates may be kidnapped and the Nigerian economy will pay the ultimate price.

Let us hope that Nigeria will see peace again after the elections, who ever becomes president.
