Sad way to find out your daughter was raped

Phew you got to know your daughter was raped through the newspapers, what a sad way for a mum to find out about something like this.

Read excerpts from the interview Foluke Daramola's mum granted Nigeriafilms.

How did you feel when your daughter was raped?

In actual fact, she did not tell me. I just saw it in the newspapers, but she never told me. Maybe she was wondering how I was going to feel because she lost her dad at a very tender age of three. It was not easy at all because we were living in an uncompleted building that the father built before he died. We had terrible experience with tenants even there was a time she was beaten.

Maybe she did not want to break your heart?

Yes, you know she said that she had to visit the psychologist. You know many of them like that will not be able to tell anyone, maybe not to frustrate me.

But if she had told you, what would you have done then?

As at that time, I might feel disturbed but by God’s grace, you know she is a wonderful child, I would have felt very bad. As at that particular time, I have not got my anointing, I was ordained as a Pastor in 1991, but I would have felt disturbed, maybe God would have given me a message.

My husband is having sex chats with his cousin

And this first cousin is MARRIED with her own kids. Here's a mail I just received, guys. She needs your advice urgently.

Hi Funso,

I never thought I'd be asking for the opinion of your blog readers, but shit happens.
I've been having issues recently with my hubby in a less than 2 years marriage, have been really really unhappy for sometime now and its all based on infidelity issues, but that is not the issue now.

There was a funeral in his family recently, his cousins returned, including an older female cousin of his who is married with kids. After the funeral, she returned to her base, But she has been crushing on him (apparently her own hubby is always on the move, works with the media). The disgusting part is, my hubby seems to respond positively, they even sex chat.

My question is, should I report this to his mum since the lady is my mother-inlaw's niece?

Exchanging kisses for money: Scotland

Exchanging Kisses for Money: Scotland
During the engagement, Scottish brooches (Luckenbooth) are given as tokens of love and they are usually made of silver and engraved with two intertwined hearts. If the couple pins it to the blanket of their first born it will bring the family luck. After the bridal shower, the bride is made up and dressed in long trains made of old curtains or whatever party material is around or some garish costumes.
The bride then has to carry a small plastic potty with salt in the bottom, and she is taken around town where the women proceed to make a lot of noise banging pots and pans to herald the bride’s status. The bride then exchanges kisses for money that are dropped into the potty, and this is said to bring good luck, prosperity, and fertility.

‘I married my friend’s ex and I have no regrets’

‘I married my friend’s ex and I have no regrets’
Hello Funso,

My name is Grace. Ten years ago, I was at the University of Ibadan. My best friend, Bunmi, asked me to go on a double date with her and I agreed. I agreed because she was always dating older men for money although she had a boyfriend on campus, and she had put me under so much pressure to do likewise. So before the outing, I took my time to prepare very well so that I would look as sweet and sexy as possible to any man who looked my way.
I hated miniskirts because I felt they debased womanhood by exposing the thighs of a woman who ought to keep herself for her husband’s eyes alone. However, because I needed more cash than loving at the time, I knew I had to let go of my high moral standing.
After all, they say that a woman stoops to conquer. So I had to morally stoop, as it were, in order to get what I wanted. You can describe my reasoning as twisted but the fact is that I was really desperate for money at that time and was willing to double date or to put it plainly, to even sell my body if only I would get enough money to meet my needs, which indeed were many. We went out that night and it turned out to be a different night.
The big man that my girlfriend was interested in was interested in me. So Bunmi had to go with another man that she wasn’t interested in. From the look in her eyes, I knew that she was jealous of me and I decided not to go out with her ever again. Later on when we had returned to school, her boyfriend Dave came to see her.
He asked her where she had been the previous night and she lied to him. I didn’t know how to lie because I pitied Dave since I could see that he loved Bunmi so much. So I took him aside privately and confessed to him that we had gone to visit some sugar daddies. Dave really liked my girlfriend Bunmi, but she was a gold digger and was just using him.
She was always asking him for money and he was always hurt and upset about the way my best friend treated him. Finally, Bunmi broke up with Dave and moved to Abuja. But occasionally, I would chat with Dave on the phone and still maintained contact with him. In 2004, I realized I had a lot of feelings for Dave but I was in a relationship and he was in another relationship as well. I didn’t want to destroy his relationship because I thought he was happy.
I also didn’t want to risk losing his friendship if I told him how I felt. I kept it all secret and made little jokes about how I felt to him, never letting him know how I really felt. I broke up with my boyfriend in 2005 and moved back to Ibadan to continue schooling. I told Dave I was back at Ibadan and he promised to visit me.
At Ibadan, I refused to live in the same room off campus with any promiscuous female student because what they were doing was affecting my safety. She could go out and bring home men from the bar when her boyfriend was not around. I hated lying to anybody’s boyfriend because I was really against cheating. So I lived with a Christian sister. When Dave came to visit me, we had fun for a week but one night changed everything. We went out to a club. Then we went dancing on the floor and I realized we were both alike.
We both danced the same way and loved it. It is rare to find someone like that. My feelings welled up inside of me. I wanted to give Dave a simple kiss on the cheek and as I did that, he moved his head and we kissed. I confessed to him that night that I have always loved him. He was not surprised.
We went to his hotel room that night with passion on our minds. We made love that night and almost everyday after that. Within one month he took me to see his parents and they approved of our getting married. Now we are happily married with three kids.

‘My aunt is a lesbian and she wants to sleep with me!’

‘My aunt is a lesbian and she wants to sleep with me!’

Dear Love Doctor, I need your help. My aunt is a lesbian and she wants to sleep with me. She is my mother’s younger sister and she is very rich because she is married to a politician. My mother sent me from the village to stay with her in Abuja so that she could sponsor my education up to university level. I’ve been living with her for six months now and I observe the way different women come into the house to visit her. If her husband is around, the women will stay in the living room and be chatting with my aunt. But after her husband leaves the house, my aunt will take her female visitor inside her room and lock the door. Now she tells me to cooperate with her if I want to become a university graduate in future. She says that if I don’t cooperate with her I will end up as a failure in life because she won’t use her money to train me. Sometimes in the night when her husband is asleep, she would come inside my room and tell me to suck her breasts and do other erotic things to her. I’ve been doing it for her since last month because I don’t want her to send me back to the village. But now I’m fed up. My parents are very poor in the village. Please what will I do? From Yvonne.

Love Doctor’s Advice:
Dear Yvonne, I’m aware some men are married to lesbians. A lesbian that also sleeps with a man or member of the opposite sex is called a bisexual. Therefore, your aunt is a bisexual. She is evil. Stop doing it with her. However, she is not God and does not hold the key to your destiny.
You don’t have to go through such horror of sexual harassment from a woman like you and a member of your own family for that matter, in order to be a graduate or succeed in life. I suggest you return to your parents and tell them to seek help elsewhere, that is, away from your aunt. You can also choose to learn a trade in the interim, for example, fashion designing or hairdressing so that you can work now and save money to go to school later on.

‘I don’t enjoy sex with my husband’

‘I don’t enjoy sex with my husband’
Hello Funso,
How do I tell my husband he doesn’t satisfy me anymore? If I ever mention this to him, what will he think of me, will he think I have fornicated? Will he love me same way, ask for my reason or file a divorce? We have been married for three years now. All these years, all I do is endure. I don’t endure because I don’t want to hurt him, I endure because I don’t want to lose him.
As a result of this, I had to go for counseling. I didn’t have much to talk about with the counsellor because she gave me full reason why that is happening. She said to my understanding that most times, what leads to that is the expansion of the female organ. She further explained that it is as a result of the size of the male organ that penetrated. She said if it is big, the female organ will expand to the size and retain it but if it is small then it will fit in perfectly.
All these years, I have been living with my husband with an ambivalent feeling. One mind making me think I don’t love him, and the other mind making me think I have a spiritual husband. After the meeting with the counsellor, my mind drifted back to my past relationship, the past relationship that almost cost me my life and led me to my husband.
My past relationship was a terrible experience, a relationship that for all the years spent, was based on rape and physical abuse. Ifeanyi! Ifeanyi was the name of my first love. We started our relationship from JSS 2. We had always spoken about marriage and the number of kids we wish to have.
Ifeanyi and I, didn’t only attend the same secondary school but fate also took us to the same state to serve. I didn’t know anyone else except him. He was the first man that ever made me a woman, the first who ever touched me. For all the years we dated, I dated with endurance with the hope of changing him to the man I wanted.
You see couples smiling and laughing together, you wish to have the kind of relationship they have, but you don’t know what is happening in private. You don’t know the number of times they quarrel. He was a calm person. At least that was the kind of person he was when we were in the same secondary school.
But staying with him during our youth service, he was a total different person. Ifeanyi was already a drug addict and very violent. He flared up at every slight mistake I made. He turned me into his ‘drum’ and hit me whenever he pleased. And anytime he got thirsty of sex, I became his ‘desire’.
I loved him so badly and I wondered if anyone had ever loved like that. I endured all of it because I didn’t even want to stay a breath away from him. I always hoped for change even though my friends had told me that was never going to happen. I felt they were being jealous of my relationship and I told Ifeanyi, but he warned me to stay away from them because, according to him, they were trying to separate us. Because of how much I loved him, I listened and did as he had ordered. Every night Ifeanyi would go out partying, leaving me at home all by myself.
He would come back home drunk and forcefully have sex with me. For some time I was enjoying it but after a while it became a habit for him. Aside being drunk, anytime we were home together and I mistakenly added too much salt to his food, he would get angry and beat me badly. Every normal guy would want to relate calmly with his girlfriend, but that was not the case for him.
After beating me mercilessly, he would rape me like an animal. He never cared how much I screamed or begged for mercy, the only time he stopped was when he was satisfied. No day ever went by without him acting violent toward me. He had a plus size organ, and instead of me enjoying sex with him, I endured pain for him.
I was always enduring pain, hoping that one day he would look into my eyes, apologize for all his mistakes and make things right. But no, that never happened. While hoping for a miracle, all I was fed with was disappointment. I had lost friends so I had no one to even talk to.
I had no reason to go out or have anyone over. Whenever I complained, begging him to let me go, the only response I got was: “You can’t beg for breath to cease, begging to leave me is like asking for your death.’’ Yes! I knew he loved me, I know how much he needed me around but what I never understood was why he always treated me like a slave.
He could spoil me with gifts, dinner and lunch, but that was not what I wanted. I wanted love, attention, care, time and happiness. If all everyone ever wants is gifts and outings, then what is the use of love and relationships? Everybody would seek fun and pleasure.
I kept on enduring, until one day my endurance became my nightmare. Ifeanyi degenerated from making me unhappy, to finally making me a slave. He took my gadgets from me because he noticed that anytime I got chatting, I always had a smile on. He found this frustrating and took them away from me.
He felt I was cheating but that wasn’t the case. I had never the courage to cheat because I loved him so much. I was chatting to keep myself busy because I spent every day of my life in his house. The day he took my phone away from me was the day I finally stood up to him. It was the day I poured out all my feelings and pain.
I told him how much he had been hurting me. I was expecting an apology, a hug, kisses and anything a girl wants, but no, instead, I got beatings, I got more pain. He beat me with any weapon in sight — stool, flower vases and things like that. He asked me who gave me the guts to stand up to him, and what lever I had to question his actions? Lying there in the pool of my blood, I couldn’t provide answers. I couldn’t even move my mouth. He saw me in pain and started apologizing.
That was the first time I’d ever heard that word from him in three years. I was stunned. I was happy and filled with smiles. But no, I said to myself, I could not allow this to continue, so that I wouldn’t lose my life because of love. Immediately, he came up with an idea. He quickly drove me to the hospital, and as soon as he was done with the medical bills, he stepped out to get me provisions.
I allowed the doctor treat my wounds. I didn’t wait to be properly checked on, I just wanted to leave. I just wanted to get my life back. I just wanted happiness to locate me and to stop denying myself happiness. As soon as the doctor left my room, I sneaked out of the hospital. Immediately I got outside, I saw Ifeanyi.
He started trying to rush over to me. I ran for my life and stumbled on a man. I didn’t ask for his name but asked for his help. I begged him to save my life which he did without question. We drove off before Ifeanyi could catch up with me. That man took care of me all through.
He didn’t ask questions till I got better. After a while, for the first time we had a conversation, I told him everything, and he promised to make me forget my past. He kept to his words. We dated for a while and got married. Ever since, he has showed me nothing but happiness but that happiness has not been complete.
Anytime we made love, I feel nothing. I feel no pleasure, but I pretend to make him happy. I don’t know if I am still having feelings of love for Ifeanyi or if I am missing him. Since meeting with the counsellor, I now have the courage to do what I want to do. I decided not to tell my husband but to force myself to adjust to his size. But no matter how much I try, I still feel nothing. There is no point deceiving myself. I can’t compare 12 years to four years. So I will cast my hope, faith and trust in God to help complete my happiness.

How to spot a family killer

How to spot a family killer
  • Experts discover ‘distinct psychological’ traits in men who murder their partners and children

They are often crimes of passion, occurring without warning and leaving families shattered in the aftermath. But it may be possible to predict whether someone is likely to murder their wife or family members in a spontaneous fit of rage, according to new research by psychologists.
They say people who commit familicide or uxoricide have a significantly different psychological profile than murderers who kill strangers. The findings may make it possible to even prevent such murders from taking place by intervening early to treat the person’s mental health. Domestic homicide is one of the most common and frequent types of murder in the US where one third of all women murdered are killed by their husband, boyfriend or former partner.
HOW TO SPOT A SERIAL KILLER
Dr Elizabeth Yardley from Birmingham City University, and Real Crime magazine recently highlighted five key traits of serial killers:
Power Junkie
Intent on exerting some kind of control over the people around them, they often hold back bits of crucial information in a bid to maintain power over the situation, gain attention and assert a warped sense of authority.
Manipulator
Apparent vulnerability and the need to please have been used time and time again by serial killers as a way of hiding a sinister personality.
Egotist
Egoistical serial killers often can’t help but brag about atrocities they’ve committed, whether it’s aimed at their accomplices, the next victim, law enforcement, or just themselves.
Superficial charmer
Serial killers tend to have a good grasp of other people’s emotions and are quick to pick up on vulnerabilities in order to convince them into doing things they normally would not.
Average Joe
Possibly the scariest trait of all, many serial killers look like a pillar of the community on first sight as a way of gaining trust. In the UK, an average of two women are killed each week by their partner or ex-partner. Dr Robert Hanlon, director of the forensic psychology research laboratory at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, said: ‘The findings provide important information that may help prevent future domestic homicides, because they help identify individuals at risk of committing domestic murders.
‘The killers in this group are very similar to each other and different from men who commit non-domestic murders, which are often premeditated.’ For the study, which is published in the Journal of Forensic Sciences, Dr Hanlon interviewed and evaluated 153 murderers for more than 1,500 hours. Participants were men and women who had been charged with or convicted of first-degree murder in Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, Colorado and Arizona. The study found men who commit spontaneous domestic homicides, as they are known, have more severe mental illness and particularly psychotic disorders than other people.
They also tend to have fewer previous convictions, are less intelligent and have more cognitive impairment. Dr Hanlon said: ‘These murders are in the heat of passion and generally involve drugs or alcohol and often are driven by jealousy or revenge following a separation or a split.
‘This is grabbing the kitchen knife out of the drawer in a fit of anger and stabbing her 42 times.’ He said it may be possible to identify those most at risk of committing this type of murder and intervening to help prevent it from happening. These crimes are often preventable if family members are more informed about the potential danger from having someone who is severely mentally ill in the home and who may have shown violent tendencies in the past.
‘Family members may lull themselves into a state of false beliefs thinking “my son would never hurt me” or “my husband may have a short fuse but he would never seriously harm me”. ‘You can stay with relatives, call domestic violence hotlines and say, “I’m scared something is going to happen to me”. ‘Start the wheels turning and get assistance.’

How my friends misled me and almost snatched my husband - Reader writes

I kinda like this mail the more reason I am publishing it first before the one I received last night. It shouldn’t be about us advising you all the time, it’s cool if you also share your mistakes with us sometimes, so we can also learn.

Dear DGossip247 Admin,

I have one or two things to say about married women who keep friends. I have been married for three years. I am the kind of lady that keeps a lot of friends and usually love them around me because my husband is not always around.

My husband often frowned at it when he calls and knows they are around. But I always enjoy their company so I usually ignore him.

I was naïve at first and told my friends what my hubby thought of them and they often treated him with disdain. I didn’t like it, but I let it go.

It didn’t take long before I was gradually introduced into clubbing, hanging out with young guys and completely forgot I was married. Two of these ladies were also married. I was made to perceive marriage as a bondage and a manipulative tool men often employed in controlling women.

This new lifestyle turned me into a completely different person and I started having extra-marital affairs. I got addicted to having sex with any other guy out there.

Man husband got to know I have started staying out late nights and tried talking and fixing things so many times but all to no avail as I was already enjoying this new life. (I never had one because I was raised from a very strict home)

He called on my family and friends; after loads of scolding and bashing, I realized I was stupid and had wronged him all these while (though it took a long time for me to agree. My unmarried elder sister helped me better).

After the whole dust had settled, my husband revealed that my so-called friends had been making series of advances to him, with proof of my infidelity and all that. One of them in particular was ready to travel to Abuja to be with me. He showed me her text messages, emails (he particularly asked her to also communicate through mails because he knows he has the intention of using it as evidence later on).

This was a real eye-opener to what was never taught in the class room, rather life taught me humans are not what they seemed. I have little or no complains because I lived carelessly and threw my home into disarray (unknowingly).

A piece of advice to newly-weds. Foundation of the marriage really matters, when you are married. Act like you are married and learn from my mistakes. Keeping unmarried friends and wayward married ladies was the mistake I made.

Man disrupts a lecture to propose to his girlfriend in UNIJOS (photos)

DGossip247 reader who witnessed this in her class sent in the photos. It happened today at the University of Jos medical school. The boyfriend of a female medical student named Chinenye Umeh disrupted a lecture to propose to her. It caused an uproar of course because this has never happened before. According to the sender, the girl first ran out and the guy had to run after her and brought her to the front of the class to propose to her in front of her classmates/friends and the lecturer. It was so romantic, other students cheered. Congrats to the couple. See the pics...

My fiance hates the doctrine of my church

From a female DGossip247 reader

I and my fiance have been together for almost three years. I love him so much and I believe he loves me too. I'm just worried about something if we get married. I'm a winner (living faith church) and you know we have our blessed mantle, anointing oil, feet washing service and all of that. He on the other hand has never been a fan of winners. Now he's saying anointing oil and mantle will never be allowed in his house. He's reason is actually very clear... "Anything else apart from the name of Jesus is not allowed".

He says we are all children of God and should connect to him directly and not via a mantle or oil. In fact he calls all of those things idols because people tend to forget about calling to God directly and reach out to those things. I have tried my best to convince him and tell him it doesn't mean you don't believe God or don't call him directly if you use those things. I have tried telling him I'll use them but he's permitted not to use them and he refused saying it will not be allowed in his house. Only the name of Jesus is allowed. Kindly let me know what DGossip247 readers think of this and what I can do.

My boyfriend pays me based on the rounds of sex we have

From a female DGossip247 reader...

"I sometimes spend the weekend at my boyfriend's place. He deflowered me and I don't have any regret but I suddenly began to realize that he grumbles whenever I visit him during my menstruation. He would reluctantly give me 1k for transport. Another thing I observed is that he gives me money based on the rounds of sex he has with me. Let's assume we had sex 5 times, he would give me 5k for transport and on the day or weekend we have it 3 times he would give me 3k. Is this normal or its just a way of paying 1k for each round of sex?

8 important questions you should ask on your first date

The first date is usually the first step taken by couples to get to know each other. No one wants to waste time with someone he/she cannot build something with, so it is best to get a few important questions out of the way.

These 8 questions below will tell you what you need to know about the person you are hanging out with, but not so deep that the person feels interviewed.

1. Are you single?: Never assume a person is single simply because they took time out to go on a date with you. While, you might not always get a truthful answer, this question still needs to be asked and the response will determine where you go from there.

2. What do you do?: Getting to know someone also means getting to know what they do for a living. This does not mean you are fishing to find out how much they make or their social status, it just gives you more insight on their passion and their dreams.

3. What is your ideal partner?: If asked lightheartedly, this question could tell you a lot about your date. Telling you what he/she wants in a partner lets you know the kind of person they are and what they value in a relationship. Also, if it seems like you do not fit the bill, then you know not to waste your time.

4. What do you think about marriage?: Not everyone is into settling down for the long haul and in our society, a lot of people get married just because they are expected to. But having this question asked and honestly answered will let you know where your date stands.

5. Do you have/want children?: Just like marriage, it is unusual to have a Nigerian man or woman admit to not wanting kids. But this is another question that needs to be asked. Also, it will be best for you to know if you are dating a single parent earlier than later as it gives you a better idea on what your relationship will be like.

6. What do you do for fun?: What a person spends his/her free time on can help you determine if you want to be with them. Do they spend all their time at bars, do they like quiet time at home? If you choose to go further with them, you should know that you will be expected to share some of their fun time ideas with them, so make sure this is okay with you.

7. Where did you grow up?: While answering this question, your date will give you tit-bits on their childhood and what life was like, growing up for them. You cannot truly have a good idea about what a person is like if you do not know where they come from.

8. What do you want to do with your life?: This question gives your date an opportunity to open up on what he/she truly holds dear. You can find out his/her ideal career goals, family goals, dreams and ambition. It is very important as this helps you decide if your goals are in line with each other.

Bishop David Oyedepo - “Women’s liberation is the reason why most marriages are failing”

Bishop David Oyedepo, The GO of Winner’s Chapel and founder of Covenant University, , has pinpointed the idea of gender equality and women liberation as the reason for the high rate of divorce cases in the world.
The pastor made this known during the third service of his church in Ota, Ogun State on Sunday., He noted during his sermon that the increasing call for and approval of equality between women and men has spilled into their marital lives. The man of God added that such women now equate themselves with their husbands, against the biblical doctrine which states that women ought to be submissive to their husbands and that men should love their wives.

In buttressing his point, he also stated that cases of divorce were most common in the western world because people in such places have thrown the dictates of God away and have instead started imbibing self-made laws that allow them to live with near-absolute freedom. When you copy the west, you make a huge mistake. They have murdered freedom. they encourage Gays and lesbians. You want to be equals with your husband and you want peace? its impossible. he added

Guys, Do you think Daddy Oyedepo is right on this?

Question of the Day...

Guys, let's share. If you had to marry your partner where you met them, where would that be? Mine would be at the cinema. lol. What's yours?
