“Permit us to please use your medium to shed light on the travails of the UCH Doctor as mismanagement derails training. The residency program is a specialist training for QUALIFIED DOCTORS;fully funded by Govt in return for a living wage.
The Govt sponsors courses, updates & exams In exchange for doctors CONCENTRATING ON PATIENT CARE AND RESEARCH. The benefits are immense; renowned medical specialists training would-be specialists & providing care for the community. Despite billions released for this, the UCH Doctor has paid for his training out-of-pocket in the past 3 years. Not immune from economic realities, the doctor becomes overstretched. Focus shifts. Patient care suffers. Corruption kills. Teaching Hosps work on hierarchy & division of labour. From specialists-residents-interns. It is a well oiled machine! For its size, the Govt budgets yearly wages for 156 interns. Till April, the Hosp employed 65 & recently 105.
Once again doctors are overstretched & weary. Patient care suffers. Corruption kills doctors, corruption kills patients.
For a 13 month period btw Oct 2013-Oct2014, pension deductions made were not forwarded to Pension Fund Administrators
In April 2013, the Govt ordered a grade adjustment for doctors in keeping with other health workers.
UCH mgt has flouted this directive despite DOCUMENTED increase of about 1bn for Personnel funds in 2015
We understand realities in the country & every strike embarked on paints us as money grabbing charlattans the public.
Pleas have fallen on deaf ears in d last 17 months&the world seems oblivious to d rot in this glorious establishment.
We appreciate the audience you have granted us. Please remember, corruption kills patients, corruption kills doctors!”
